Reading Ladder
February
The book of Negros 511/28=18.5 pages per day
I felt like I outdid my self this month, especially since I just finished LA and wasn’t in the mood to pick up a book. However, Since Ms. Hunniset was talking about how great of a book this is I was intrigued to pick it up. The book was flawlessly written, the beginning was quite slow, but it made up for it with the vivid description, capable of making any individual feel immersed in the setting. The situations described were painful to imagine but gave me some great ideas. Next month I plan to re-read one of my favorite survival style books “The Maze Runner”
March
The maze runner 404/31= 13 pages per day
This month was quite busy, balancing school and job interviews is a struggle, thankfully I was still able to re-read The Maze Runner. This book is simply fantastic, although there is a slight hunger game vibe to it. It is still unique. The concept is simple and almost predictable but the execution by Dashner is unbelievable. Each character serves a purpose and their death/corruptions are truly painful, the anticipation of a happy ending, causes the rapid flipping of pages, and time becomes a blur. If it wasn’t spring break I may have picked up the scorch trials as well.
April 584/30=19.5 pages per day
The Book Thief
This month was crazy I returned from the break with no motivation to do anything that required the use of ATP. I constantly felt like I was wasting my time, however, once I read the book thief which I accidentally stole from the library a while ago. That feeling faded and although it didn’t disappear I was quite impressed by the skill and talent of Zusak, I quickly figured out that he was writing from the perspective of death before it was made obvious making me feel like a genius. The setting, the interactions in the book thief’s new family, and the loose ends as to why the family chose to adopt her all add to the suspense and intrigue. The book starts slow but every word is used intentionally and holds a purpose.
May/June
Conspiracy 365 Malice-192pagesĀ & The Lord of the Flies-224 pages Wonder 185/315 pages 224+192+185= 601/39 =15.4 pages per day
The final stretch. Eyes are watering from lack of rest, my mood is frequently changing, expectations are high and reality is closing at an unbearable pace, my greatest fears are coming true, and I had a shift the last weekend before school ends on Monday. All things considered, I am proud of myself and the amount I was able to accomplish this month. I re-read 3 books from my past malice was a from a childhood series I really enjoyed, Wonder will always be a great book to read no matter what as it is a truly heartwarming piece, but the lord of the flies will always piss me off as I feel like the children are just mentally deranged throughout the whole the book. This concludes my reading ladder for this semester and although I’m not all that excited for summer, I am excited for school to be over.
